Mastering Math and Spanish

Mastering Math is a unique educational mini-camp designed to foster a love of mathematics and Spanish while developing the concepts needed to be successful in school and life. Our courses are designed and instructed by qualified, experienced teachers. Our camps run Monday through Friday from 9:00 till 12:15 with the option of an extended day until 4:00 to include three hours of Spanish for an additional fee. Our goal is to remediate and enrich math and Spanish instruction.
We offer mini-camps for remediation, enrichment and reinforcement. Our camps are based on skills necessary for success at each grade level. Spanish is the 2nd language in our country and being able to speak 2 languages will become a necessity.
Mini-camps are from 9:00 - 12:15 for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and Pre-Algebra students. The camps run for one week, targeting specific skills. Our objectives change weekly allowing us to focus on specific skills. Children are allowed to sign up for as many camps as needed. We vary our activities so the children will obtain the skills they need in a fun, nurturing environment. Activities include the use of manipulatives, mathematical games, and problem solving activities. Your child will work with other students their age in a small group setting. Our student teacher ratio is not to exceed 1:6. Drop off is from 9:00 - 9:15 and learning begins at 9:15. Our new Spanish program will have your child singing and speaking another language while having a great time. They won't even realize they are learning while singing, setting the table, completing art activities, puppetry, stories, movies and formal instruction. We will even teach the parents Spanish if they would like to join us. It is always fun to make it a family event. We believe that learning another language gives children a huge advantage in todays global world.
Problem Solving Sessions are offered once a week for 1st graders through Pre-Algebra.. We follow the Wake County Curriculum and reinforce what is being covered in the classroom. These groups are limited to 4 students which provides a very low student teacher ratio. Your child will be placed according to ability level and therefore may be placed in a lower or higher grade depending on need. These classes last for one hour and focus on the skills they are covering in the classroom. 50% of the class is dedicated to problem solving which is how students are tested. This gives them practice throughout the year for state and local testing.
****Additional classes can be added upon request. If you need another time or day for your child, please let us know.

Algebraic Thinking camps - using a proven hands-on approach, students will master advanced algebraic equations. Children who complete this program will have an advantage over their peers when beginning algebra as they will have a firm conceptual understanding of algebra. This program is divided into two parts. Part I is appropriate for any student entering a pre-algebra or algebra class. It is also a perfect review for those who have completed an algebra course but need further reinforcement. Part II is more advanced and you will need successful completion of Part I or complete a pre-test before being allowed to enroll in this class.
Middle School Concepts and Pre-Algebra: are now offered as a camp. They are great for middle school math students. We will work on skills that commonly cause problems for students, like higher level fractions, ratios, proportions, percents, statistics, probability, geometry and integers. Like our mini-camps, Middle School Concepts is divided into sections by skills. There are five sections offered giving you the opportunity to target only those skills that your child needs. We offer these classes as camps as well as a Saturday program upon request. The pre-algebra camps are offered at the end of each quarter during track out. We will review the skills taught during the previous quarter at school and prepare them for the upcoming quarter.
